"Pyren" trip (one
week) :
That great trip will lead you from
the center of France to the Pyrenees mountains and the
Languedoc, not forgetting the Massif Central mountains
and the lovely Quercy. You will discover (or see again)
how the South of France is incredibly varied and lovely
: the variety is not only about the different gorgeous
scenery, but also the architecture, the food, etc...
That week is at the middle of the
Tour de France, and, even if, at the end of the trip,
we will not be sure of the 2004Tour winner, we may get
some ideas about him and should assist to great
stages in lovely surroundings!
July the 12th (race stage : Rest day in
Limoges): Pick
up in Limoges ( airport or train station or hotel). Limoges
is well known by French for its fine china making (the painter
Renoir started to paint for the limoges china
makers)... Drive to the very nice and typical accommodation
in the country side, where we are staying two nights.
Bike
settings/trials.
July the 13th (race stage : St Léonard
- Guéret):
The very nice Creuse area, one of the most remote
area of France, rich of green hills and typical old
farms. The region has inspired great painters such as
Monet and Guillaumin. We will join the
race by riding in the very scenic and quiet Correze.
July the 14th (race stage : Limoges - Saint
Flour):
The 14th
of July is the French National Day. It will also be
an epic day : a very nice stage through the Massif Central
mountains and volcano. It is the longest stage of the
2004 Tour and it would offer us a grand spectacle! The
local architecture is rich of numerous old farms and
shelters built with volcano stone bricks (walls) and
volcano tiles (roves). It is one of the best place in
France for cheese tasting. We will see the race for
the Puy Mary ascents (Puy Mary is part of the edge of
a huge ancient volcano). We are staying two nights in
that area.

July the 15th (race stage : Saint Flour- Figeac)
Saint
Flour is settled on the Cantal volcano; The race will
lead South West, from the volcano area to the beginning
of the gorgeous Quercy region, just next to the Dordogne.
The racers's route will be very challenging as the route
is particularly hilly : it would be good opportunities
for breakaways... Figeac, home of Cyclande's office
is a lovely medieval town with buildings as old as 500
years old!

The
16th (race stage : Castelsarrasin - La
Mongie):
The
race is arriving in the Pyrenees with the great climbs
of col d'Aspin and La Mongie ski resort. We will shortcut
that stage to transfert to Carcassonne medieval town
and benefit from very nice rides there. We will
see the race arrival on a TV in a local Café,
sharing great moments with local people. Carcassonne
medieval town is well-known for its awesome fortified
medieval city . We are staying two nights in a
small castle within the Carcassonne area.

The 17th (race stage : Lannemezan - Plateau
de Beille) :
"Crazy" day for the racers,
with 6 cols to climb, 217 km, and the finish on top
of Plateau de Beille . Surely the most difficult stage
of the 2004 Tour. It would be decisive for the general
classification of the Tour. Also, we will view the tour
for that terrific ascent of plateau de Beille.

The 18th (race stage : Carcassonne - Nîmes ):
The departure from the very nice Carcassonne town
and its fortified ancient city from the middle ages,
located in the heart of the pretty Languedoc region,
famous in France for its wine, scenery and pleasant
way of life...
End of the trip after race departure from Carcassonne
and drive back to your hotel or airport or train station...
